Environmental Justice Alliance

EJA seeks to improve the health, safety, and appearance of historically underserved communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

What is Environmental Justice?

The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. This goal will be achieved when everyone enjoys:

The same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards

Equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work

"Environmental justice means equal protection from environmental negatives, equal access to environmental positives, and equal opportunity to participate in environmental decision making."

Our Mission

To provide environmental solutions to vulnerable communities and raise awareness about environmental issues among underrepresented populations.

These outcomes are expected to be accompanied by a decline in violent crime, an increase in civic engagement, a reduction in roadside waste, and an improved quality of life for the residents of these communities.
